Happy New Year!
The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Tony Clayton and his wife were guests of honour at the recent Friends of Rheinbach annual dinner which took place at the Sevenoaks Community Centre. After drinks, members and guests were able to enjoy a fine three-course meal prepared by some of the association’s own members. The evening ended with thanks from the mayor who himself helped establish the twinning arrangement in the 1990s with Rheinbach.
Rheinbach and Sevenoaks Pupils
Making Music Together
In early December, 64 visiting pupils from the Städtisches Gymnasium in Rheinbach joined Knole Academy pupils and the renowned choral group Voces 8 for a day of shared music making. The day's events were rounded off with a public concert in the Academy's Oaks Theatre.

Friends of Rheinbach 25th
Anniversary Visit
In mid-July a group from the Friends of Rheinbach travelled to Germany to celebrate 25 years of twinning between the two towns.
During the four-day visit visitors from Sevenoaks were entertained with excursions in the area and attended a formal reception. This was held in the attractive Glass Museum with its many fine exhibits produced by local artists.
Guests were addressed by the Mayor of Rheinbach and heard a greeting from Sevenoaks Town Mayor, Tony Clayton, who had been instrumental in establishing the formal twinning arrangement.
At the reception, piano and violin duets were played by Peter Young from Sevenoaks and by Julia Maassen (pictured) who played as a schoolgirl 25 years ago at the inaugural twinning celebrations.
The visit ended with a farewell dinner and many wishes for a continuance of the warm friendship with our twin town in Germany.
