Twinning
The Friends of Rheinbach was formed in 1995 to develop a friendly twinning relationship with Rheinbach, a town of similar size, in the west of Germany. A formal Charter of Friendship between Sevenoaks and Rheinbach was set up in 2000.
Since then, regular visits to and from our sister twin organisation have led to the development of strong ties on an individual and family level. Contact between schools and interest groups of all kinds has been and continues to be actively promoted.
Our twin town in Germany
Rheinbach lies in an attractive rural area within very easy reach of the historic cities of Bonn and Cologne and many other places of interest.
The picturesque Ahr Valley, famous for its red wines, is not far away whilst a trip on the nearby Rhine is a delightful way to explore the scenic attractions of the region.
Tracing its origins to Roman times, today Rheinbach is an attractive town with timbered buildings reflecting its growth in medieval times.
As
a centre for education Rheinbach hosts a university campus, a
specialist technical school for glass design and also has a museum with
fine displays of decorative glass.
